Budget Highlights 2016


Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Finance Minister, the Honourable William Morneau delivered their first federal budget on March 22nd noting that global growth has slowed, financial market volatility has risen and commodity prices have fallen sharply. The new Liberal government will repeal the Federal Balanced Budget Act in order to spend heavily in this budget. This will lead to a projected $29.4 billion shortfall this year and gradually declining to a deficit of $14.3 billion in 2020-21.
